About Me

I was born on the island of Maui in Hawaii. I spent my formative years in what many would call paradise. I grew up five minutes away from the ocean and spent my free time getting sunburned exploring the diverse ecosystems of the tide pools and coral reefs.

Growing up in Hawaii gave me an appreciation for preserving native ecosystems and cultures that are so often compromised by colonialism. I watched the beaches and sacred historical sites being disrupted by the increase of tourism and population on Maui. As a college student, I hope to learn more about how to protect such places. I am interested in studying cultural anthropology and environmental sustainability so that when I return home I can give back to the community that makes my home so beautiful.

I am interested in writing and journalism. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t telling a story or consuming one. I grew up in a time where stories were being told through a myriad of mediums. I think stories (whether or not they’re true) influence our world greatly. The changes I wish to make can be brought about through writing.
